A personal documentary about the director’s friend Panagiotis Melidis (pseudonym Larry
Gus), a creative young musician from Veria in Northern Greece who mixes Greek musical elements
with dance rhythms and electronica. In 2010, 26-year-old Larry Gus, decides to pursue
his dream. He drops his studies and returns to his childhood bedroom to record his first album.
Shot in a home-movie style it provides insight into contemporary Greek youth culture.

Το πορτραίτο του Παναγιώτη Μελίδη, ενός νεαρού μουσικού από τη Βέροια της Βόρειας
Ελλάδας γνωστού ως Λάρι Γκας, σκηνοθετημένο από τον στενό του φίλο Β. Κατσούπη. Το
2010, ο 26άχρονος Λάρι Γκας, παθιασμένος με την ηλεκτρονική μουσική, αποφασίζει να
κυνηγήσει το όνειρό του: παρατάει τις σπουδές του και επιστρέφει στο παιδικό του δωμάτιο
για να ηχογραφήσει το πρώτο του άλμπουμ. Γυρισμένο σε στυλ home-movie, το ντοκιμαντέρ
εισχωρεί στον προσωπικό χώρο του καλλιτέχνη και παράλληλα φωτίζει πτυχές της νεανικής
κουλτούρας στην Ελλάδα.

Aris is a factory worker who has split up with his wife. When he is suddenly sacked without
cause and his life spirals into poverty and hopelessness, he is overcome by the injustice of his
situation. He struggles to find work and be a good father to his six-year-old son, but desire for
revenge takes hold with tragic consequences. A stark and sombre story starring well-known
actor Yannis Stankoglou, the film has won awards in Greece and abroad.

Ο Άρης είναι εργάτης σε εργοστάσιο και έχει χωρίσει με τη γυναίκα του. Αφού απολύεται από
τη δουλειά του ξαφνικά και αναίτια, η ζωή του βυθίζεται στη φτώχεια και την απόγνωση και
ο ίδιος κυριεύεται από ένα βαθύ αίσθημα αδικίας. Πασχίζει να βρει δουλειά και να φροντίσει
τον εξάχρονο γιό του, αλλά η δίψα του για εκδίκηση υπερισχύει με τραγική κατάληξη. Μια
ιδιαίτερα σκληρή ταινία με πρωταγωνιστή τον γνωστό ηθοποιό Γιάννη Στάνκογλου, η οποία
έχει κερδίσει βραβεία στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.

A film about contemporary Greek anti-establishment music which combines documentary and
fictional sequences with ‘film musical’ and music clips. It includes musicians A. Parinis, D.
Poulikakos and Th. Kois and music genres of rembetika, laika, Cretan, rock, punk and hip
hop. The critic R. Tomczak writes that it evokes “…the sadness, the anger, the bitterness of
people who live under difficult circumstances, but also their vitality” shomingekiblog.
*The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director.*

Μία ταινία για τη σύγχρονη αντιεξουσιαστική μουσική σκηνή στην Ελλάδα. Συνδυάζει στοιχεία
ντοκιμαντέρ και μυθοπλασίας με μιούσικαλ και μουσικά βίντεοκλιπ. Συμμετέχουν οι μουσικοί
Α. Παρίνης, Δ. Πουλικάκος, Θ. Κόης και παρουσιάζονται μουσικά ρεύματα όπως ρεμπέτικο,
λαϊκό, Κρητική μουσική, ροκ, πανκ και χιπ χοπ. Ο κριτικός Ρ. Τομζακ γράφει για την ταινία: “…
φέρνει στο νου τη θλίψη, την οργή, την πίκρα των ανθρώπων που ζουν κάτω από δύσκολες
συνθήκες, αλλά και την ζωντάνια τους” shomingekiblog.

A factory owner brings up three children, now adults, within the confines of a villa where the
outside world is kept at bay. Only the father decides who and what enters the compound. The
appearance of a female employee, paid for sexual services to the son, eventually upsets this
precarious world. A multi-awarded film that has often divided audiences, it signals a new style
in Greek cinema.

Κυνόδοντας (2009) 94΄ Σκ. Γιώργος Λάνθιμος

Ένας εργοστασιάρχης μεγαλώνει τα τρία του, ενήλικα πλέον, παιδιά μέσα στα κλειστά όρια μιας
βίλας, χωρίς επαφή με τον έξω κόσμο. Ο πατέρας αποφασίζει τί και ποιός μπαίνει στη βίλα.
Μία νεαρή υπάλληλος, η οποία πληρώνεται για να προσφέρει σεξουαλικές υπηρεσίες στον γιο
της οικογένειας, διαταράσσει την ισορροπία του εύθραστου αυτού κόσμου. Πολυβραβευμένη
ταινία που συχνά διχάζει το κοινό ενώ έχει σηματοδοτήσει ένα νέο ρεύμα στο Ελληνικό σινεμά.

The film follows the life of a middle-aged archaeologist who begins a relationship with a
young Egyptian worker in a milieu where gay Greek and foreign men meet. With a loose
narrative that focuses on the cultural and social borders that exist in matters of love and
desire between individuals of unequal status, it offers a contemplative cinematic gaze at the spaces between people and their need for intimacy.

Hellenic Film Academy Award for Best Screenplay.

She saves and economises to afford a cheap apartment so she can enjoy her independence. The film focuses on Christina’s free spirit, courage and inventiveness as she struggles to achieve her dream. A tender story about the phenomenon of youth dependence on family in Greece.

A Greek-American surgeon, desiring a religious life for his family, settles in Greece in a secluded estate where his children are homeschooled and grow up in an unorthodox way.

A hard and honest close-up account of a group of former drug addicts in Athens told through the camera of Dominikos who has hit rock bottom and fought his way back to staying ‘clean’.
