Η ιστορία ενός νέου κοριτσιού που αποφασίζει να συναντήσει για πρώτη φορά τον άγνωστο πατέρα της, ο οποίος αγνοεί την ύπαρξή της. Η Εύα είναι δυναμική και ανεξάρτητη και σπουδάζει κλασσικό τραγούδι. Ο Θωμάς είναι οδηγός νταλίκας που ζει σ’ ένα κοντέινερ στο χώρο της δουλειάς του, παραιτημένος από κάθε προσδοκία. Η συνάντησή τους θα είναι η συνάντηση δύο διαφορετικών κόσμων. Θα δημιουργηθεί μια ιδιότυπη «δική τους» σχέση, έξω από τις συνηθισμένες κατηγορίες.

When the Greek armies prepare to set sail for Troy to bring back Menelaos’ wife Helen
they are unable to proceed for lack of wind. The oracles reveal to Agamemnon that he
must sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia to break the curse. The third in Cacoyannis’ trilogy of
Greek tragedies, this highly-acclaimed film stars Irini Papas and Kostas Kazakos,with musical
score by Mikis Theodorakis.

A powerful documentary that provides a shocking yet intimate glimpse into the workings
of the Greek judicial system. The first time cameras have been allowed into the Athens
Court of First Instance, the result is a ‘theatre’ of social drama in which ordinary people,
often uneducated and poorly represented, face an antiquated and unsympathetic
system that deals out rough justice for offenders and litigants alike.

Θέμις

Ένα πρωτότυπο ντοκιμαντέρ που προσφέρει μια συγκλονιστική αλλά οικεία γεύση από τη λειτουργία του ελληνικού δικαστικού συστήματος. Για πρώτη φορά η κάμερα μπαίνει στα ελληνικά δικαστήρια. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι ένα «θέατρο» κοινωνικού δράματος, στο οποίο απλοί άνθρωποι, συχνά αγράμματοι και χωρίς επαρκή εκπροσώπηση, έρχονται αντιμέτωποι με ένα απαρχαιωμένο και απρόσωπο σύστημα, που αποδίδει μιά εξίσου πρόχειρη δικαιοσύνη, τόσο στους παραβάτες όσο και στους διάδικους.

A lyrical film that nostalgically narrates childhood experiences of a 1960 summer on the Aegean
island of Chios. While playfully relating the summertime misadventures of a group of pre-adolescent
children, the film is an homage to the island’s natural environment and the traditional life of its
mastic producers. A classic in Greek cinema that has charmed both adult and young audiences.

Mια τρυφερή ταινία για το φόβο του παιδιού απέναντι στις απαγορεύσεις και τους κανόνες των μεγάλων, αλλά και για τη ρευστή αίσθηση της ομορφιάς ανάμεσα στο δυνατό φως του ουρανού και το σκληρό τοπίο της Χίου στις αρχές του ’60. Η ταινία έλαβε πολλές διακρίσεις τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και στο εξωτερικό, και έχει χαρακτηριστεί ως μία από τις κλασικές ταινίες του ελληνικού κινηματογράφου.

An essay on Love and Eros as the most powerful forces in our lives and the universe, the film
uses heterogenous devices to narrate its celebratory creed of love and Greek cosmogony.
Part satire, part didacticism, part absurdism, this film is its own genre. Refusing to descend into
seriousness, it takes on the large philosophical questions while frolicking through a Greek
landscape with Monty Pythonesque glee.

Κινηματογραφικό δοκίμιο για την Αγάπη και τον Έρωτα, ως τις πιο ισχυρές δυνάμεις στη ζωή μας και
στο σύμπαν. Η ταινία χρησιμοποιεί ποικιλία εκφραστικών μέσων για να αφηγηθεί το πανηγυρικό δόγμα
της Αγάπης και της Ελληνικής Κοσμογονίας. Εν μέρει σατιρική, εν μέρει διδακτική, κάνοντας συχνά
χρήση του παραλόγου, η ταινία δημιουργεί το δικό της ύφος. Αρνούμενη την σοβαροφάνεια, κατα-
πιάνεται με τα μεγάλα φιλοσοφικά ερωτήματα και ελίσσεται στο ελληνικό τοπίο, αφήνοντας μια γεύση
από «Μόντι Πάϊθονς».

To the homeland, says I. To disaster, says Thomas and laughs.’ So begins the hellish descent of
three refugees, members of the Greek minority of Northern Epirus in Albania, ‘from the snow’
to the depths of Omonia Square in Athens. Award-winning film that explores aspects of
Greeks’ response to the first wave of immigrants in the 1990s.

” Ο Θωμάς κι εγώ το πήραμε απόφαση. Απόψε φεύγουμε για την Ελλάδα. Πού πηγαίνουμε; Στην πα-
τρίδα, λέω ‘γω. Στο χαμό, λέει o Θωμάς και γελάει.” Έτσι αρχίζει η κολασμένη κάθοδος τριών βορειοη-
πειρωτών προσφύγων “απ’ το χιόνι” ως το βυθό της Ομόνοιας. Πολυβραβευμένη ταινία που διερευνά
πτυχές του τρόπου ανταπόκρισης των Ελλήνων στο πρώτο κύμα μεταναστών στη δεκαετία του ‘90.

(Dir. A portrait of Markos Vamvakaris (1905-1972) one of the greatest creators of Greek rebetiko
song. With rare footage, audio, sound tracks and interviews with family and musician
friends, the director provides insight into the musician’s personal life and the milieu in
which he lived and created. The documentary captures the rebetiko way of life epitomised
in Vamvakaris whose music expresses its harshness and tenderness.

Πορτραίτο του Μάρκου Βαμβακάρη (1905-1972), ενός από τους μεγαλύτερους δημιουργούς του
ρεμπέτικου τραγουδιού. Με σπάνιο υλικό αρχείου, ήχο, ηχογραφήσεις και συνεντεύξεις με την οι-
κογένειά του και τους φίλους του μουσικούς, ο σκηνοθέτης ξεδιπλώνει το νήμα της προσωπικής
ζωής του μουσικού και αποκαλύπτει το περιβάλλον στο οποίο έζησε και δημιούργησε. Το ντοκι-
μαντέρ καταγράφει τον ρεμπέτικο τρόπο ζωής, που συνοψίζεται στην προσωπικότητα του Βαμ-
βακάρη. Η μουσική του Μ. Βαμβακάρη εκφράζει την σκληρότητα και την τρυφερότητα αυτού του
τρόπου ζωής.

Five old friends, whose lives are bound up with youth rebellion of the 1950s, get together after
many years. A film with cult status amongst generations of youth, it expresses the director’s personal
vision that rejects traditional platitudes of conformity in favour of friendship and oppositional
idealism. A cinema that finds bleak beauty in its defiant and damaged characters.

Πέντε παλιοί φίλοι, των οποίων οι ζωές συνδέονται με την εξέγερση της νεολαίας της δεκαετίας του ’50, ξανασμίγουν μετά από πολλά χρόνια. Μετέωροι όλοι, τυραννισμένοι από άγονους έρωτες, σημαδεμένοι απ’ το θάνατο αγαπημένων συνομηλίκων, προδομένοι από την πολιτική των καιρών τους, προσπαθούν – μάταια όμως – να ξαναστήσουν την παλιά συμμορία της εφηβείας τους. Η επανάσταση χάθηκε. Ο καθένας θα τραβήξει τώρα για το δικό του θάνατο, ανοίγοντας έτσι ένα νέο κεφάλαιο στην ιστορία της γενιάς του.

Elias, a ten year-old boy, suddenly loses his father who never returns from a business trip. He
waits for him so they can watch the American moon landing together on TV. The landing takes
place but without his father. Elias finally accepts his father is gone and that he must grow up
and continue life without him. Award-wining film.

Το κάθε μέλος της οικογένειας αντιμετωπίζει με το δικό του τρόπο τη σκληρή πραγματικότητα, όμως ο μικρός Ηλίας απλά την αρνείται και συνεχίζει να ζει αναμένοντας την επιστροφή του πατέρα του… Ταινία με πολλά βραβεία και πολύ θετικές κριτικές.

Shot in documentary style, the film tells the story of a Kurdish man who enters Greece illegally
to search for his young brother who has disappeared on his way to Italy. The story follows
him to Athens in places inhabited by homeless refugees until he stows away on a truck bound
for Italy where he finally hears of his brother’s fate. A journey into the ‘roadblocks’ encountered
by immigrants in their quest for a new and safe life.

Γυρισμένη με την τεχνική του ντοκιμαντέρ, η ταινία αφηγείται την ιστορία ενός Κούρδου μετανάστη, που έρχεται κυνηγημένος στην Ελλάδα για να αναζητήσει τον μικρότερο αδερφό του ο οποίος έχει φύγει επίσης λαθραία για την Ιταλία. Ταινία αποκαλυπτική για τη σκληρή ζωή των μεταναστών. Σε τι διαφέρουν οι άνθρωποι μεταξύ τους; Και γιατί διαφορετικές μοίρες μας έλκουν; Ποιο το νόημα της πατρίδας; Ποια η σημασία του διαμελισμού της ανθρωπότητας σε έθνη; Όλα αυτά θα πραγματευτεί ο Σταύρος Ιωάννου με μια ουμανιστική και εγκρατή προσέγγιση.

Viet Costas. Citizenship: Undefined (ΒΙετ ΚΩΣτΑΣ. Υπηκοότης: ακαθόριστος)(2012) 87’ (Dir. Yannis Tritsibidas)

The amazing story of Costas Sarantidis, who after escaping from Nazi work battalions, enlisted
in the French Foreign Legion, and fought in Algeria and Vietnam against local liberation movements.
Crossing over to the ‘enemy’, he spent the next eight years fighting for the Vietminh
and adopting Vietnam as his second homeland. A moving life story, the documentary won
first prize at the 2012 Greek Documentary Festival of Chalkida.

ΒΙΕΤ ΚΩΣΤΑΣ. Υπηκοότης: ακαθόριστος

(2012) 87’ (Σκ. Γιάννης Τριτσιμπίδας),

Η καταπληκτική ιστορία του Κώστα Σαραντίδη, ο οποίος αφού δραπέτευσε από τα ναζιστικά τάγματα εργασίας, στρατολογήθηκε στη γαλλική Λεγεώνα των Ξένων, και πολέμησε στην Αλγερία και το Βιετνάμ κατά των τοπικών απελευθερωτικών κινημάτων. Αυτομόλησε στο αντίπαλο στρατόπεδο, πέρασε τα επόμενα οκτώ χρόνια αγωνιζόμενος για την Vietminh και υιοθέτησε το Βιετνάμ ως δεύτερη πατρίδα του. Μια συγκινητική ιστορία ζωής, το ντοκιμαντέρ κέρδισε το πρώτο βραβείο στο Ελληνικό Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ 2012 της Χαλκίδας.

seasons of the year, fail to impose their authority on the villagers and the natural

This landmark documentary, filmed over ten years, explores the ancient site of the

Eleusinian Mysteries and the myth of Demeter and Persephone, now covered over

and almost lost within the industrial landscape of Eleusina on the edge of Athens.

Koutsaftis’ lens and moving narrative reveal the haunting presence of an ancient

world that lingers in the present.

as resort developers, set off a hedonistic tourist stampede, and a farmer and his

A highly-skilled electronics worker (Giorgos Kimoulis) holds the state telecommunications

television. The authorities bring in his old army mates to break his resolve. This

biting comedy about power and its ability to appropriate and neutralise political

opposition is one of Perakis’ early cinematic successes. English subtitles

Following the student Polytechnic uprising in 1973, Dassin’s film, shot in New York,

is an engaging use of film as political activism. Exiled Greek artists (Theodorakis,

Mercouri, Markopoulos), along with Greek students and US actors, take part in this

Brechtian drama that brings to life the resistance movement inside Greece. With

songs, re-enactments and direct statement, the film bares its cinematic artifices to

engage with its audience. English subtitles

Maraki is a forty-year-old woman who refused to follow what looked like a bright

about her pregnancy to a younger man and her dreams for the future. A beautifully-

pitched comic drama about an independent female in contemporary Greece. English subtitles

An acclaimed documentary about eight left-wing fighters in Crete who remained

political activism and the support they received from local people is one of

to enduring human values that go beyond ideology. English subtitles
