Our second film of the year will be The Partisans of Athens 2018, directed by Xenofontas Vardaros and Yiannis Xydas, produced by the Film Group Collective Memory. Η δεύτερη ταινία μας της χρονιάς είναι το ντοκιμαντέρ Οι Παρτιζάνοι των Αθηνών 2018, σε σκηνοθεσία Ξενοφώντα Βαρδαρού και Γιάννη Ξύδα, παραγωγή της Κινηματογραφικής Ομάδας συλογική μνήμη.
The Partisans of Athens will be screened next Thursday 26th of March at 7 pm at the Greek Atlas Community and Cultural Centre, 96 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville. Please note that the Centre’s restaurant is currently not operating. The Partisans of Athens 2018, 72′ Dir. Xenofontas Vardaros & Yiannis Xydas
The film focuses on the collective memory of the Athenian people’s struggle against Italian Fascists, German Nazis, and their local Greek collaborators. It moves away from generalized history to present a “mosaic of experiences” through 14 first-hand testimonials from survivors who participated in the EAM-led resistance. Personal stories are interwoven with rare archival material, an original music score by drog_A_tek, and contemporary footage from the Haidari camp, the Kaisariani Shooting Range, and the districts of Athens.

The short film CARLA will be shown before the main screening (Dir. Maddie Parry, Work in Progress, 2026, Australia, 9’, in Italian & Persian with English subtitles). The film is in its final stage of completion and we will have the opportunity to meet the Greek-Australian director from Adelaide, who will present her plans for the Greek-Australian production of a feature film, titled Ελευθερία (Eleftheria, 2027).
About the short film CARLA: The film is inspired by the director’s Greek roots and her upcoming feature film Eleftheria. It explores themes such as heritage, family, and freedom. It was made with the support of the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and the IFA. In 2025, Parry was mentored for this film by Academy Award-winning director Asghar Farhadi (known for A Separation and The Salesman). Madeleine (Maddie) Parry is best known for directing the hit Netflix special Hannah Gadsby: Nanette, which won Emmy and Peabody awards.
Οι Παρτιζάνοι των Αθηνών (2018, 72’) Σκην. Ξενοφών Βαρδαρός & Γιάννης Ξύδας
Το ντοκιμαντέρ εστιάζει στη συλλογική μνήμη του αγώνα του λαού της Αθήνας ενάντια στους Ιταλούς φασίστες, τους Γερμανούς ναζί και τους ντόπιους συνεργάτες τους. Παρουσιάζει ένα «μωσαϊκό εμπειριών» μέσα από 14 μαρτυρίες ανθρώπων που συμμετείχαν στην Αντίσταση. Οι προσωπικές ιστορίες συνδέονται με σπάνιο αρχειακό υλικό, πρωτότυπη μουσική του drog_A_tek και σύγχρονα πλάνα από το στρατόπεδο Χαϊδαρίου, το Σκοπευτήριο Καισαριανής και συνοικίες της Αθήνας.

Πριν από την κύρια προβολή θα προβληθεί η μικρού μήκους ταινία ΚΑΡΛΑ (σενάριο και σκηνοθεσία Maddie Parry, W.I.P., 2026, Αυστραλία, 9’, στα ιταλικά & περσικά με αγγλικούς υπότιτλους). Η ταινία βρίσκεται στο τελικό στάδιο ολοκλήρωσης και θα έχουμε την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουμε την ελληνικής καταγωγής σκηνοθέτιδα από την Αδελαΐδα, η οποία θα παρουσιάσει τα σχέδιά της για την ελληνοαυστραλιανή παραγωγή της ταινίας μεγάλου μήκους Ελευθερία (Eleftheria, 2027).
Λίγα λόγια για την ταινία ΚΑΡΛΑ: Η ταινία είναι εμπνευσμένη από τις ελληνικές ρίζες της σκηνοθέτιδας και το επερχόμενο έργο της Ελευθερία. Εξερευνά θέματα όπως η κληρονομιά, η οικογένεια και η ελευθερία. Δημιουργήθηκε με την υποστήριξη του South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) και του IFA. Το 2025, η Maddie Parry είχε ως μέντορα τον βραβευμένο με Όσκαρ σκηνοθέτη Asghar Farhadi (γνωστό από τις ταινίες Ένας Χωρισμός και Ο Εμποράκος). Η Madeleine (Maddie) Parry είναι γνωστή για τη σκηνοθεσία του επιτυχημένου Netflix special Hannah Gadsby: Nanette, το οποίο απέσπασε βραβεία Emmy και Peabody.
